Tips on how to Keep True and Real Friends

It is very difficult to find and keep true friends. True friends are those friends who will be there for you, would not judge you and will stick up for you even if you both have different wave length of mind. It can be really difficult to find and make real friends. However, it would be possible if you know what qualities to look for and can put yourself out there to meet new people, and show genuine interest. It is equally crucial to avoid fake friends and be a good friend yourself in order to make and keep real friends.

  1. You do not have to have everything in common with someone to become friends. Few things in common will help you to find true friends to talk about and make spending time together more fun.  So you must try to search out people who share some of your interests.
  2. You should talk to people who share your hobbies.
  3. Try to talk to people that you meet at events, such as at a poetry slam, at a protest or at a 5K race.
  4. Many online groups are there to find people who share your interests. There are meetups for board games, hiking, knitting, and other special interests.
  5. Good friends will be able to support you without judging you. Even if you do not agree with everything they do. Still they will show they care by listening to you, showing compassion, and staying with you through good and bad times.
  6. A friend who doesn't listen well will change the subject, try to one-up you, or tell you how to fix your problems.
  7. True friends are more interested in giving you advice or getting you to listen to their problems.
  8. True friends will be curious about what is going on in your life. They will ask about how you are doing and would wait to hear the answer. While having daily conversations you should notice about those people who ask about your opinions and feelings.
  9. You can even have small talk about school, work or the weather.
  10. You must also avoid distractions when they are with you such as looking at your phone.
  11. Notice people who are accepting. Good friends will let you freely express yourself without judging.

  1. Pay attention to current friends and acquaintances. You must notice about how they treat you and other people.
  2. If you do not come from a wealthy background, a real friend will understand that friendship is about more than status, labels, and brands. They will accept you for your style or where you live. They would not hold your background against you, pity you or make fun of you.
  3. True friends will consistently be there for you when you need them. In general, they will make you feel comfortable around them and feel like you are a valuable part of their life. Look for people who follow-through on their promises or plans with you.
  4. You must avoid people who tend to share secrets or gossip. If your friend is gossiping then you would not feel safe sharing close, personal information with them, which you should be able to do as a friend. You must try to avoid them.
  5. You must stay away from those friends who pressure you into doing things you do not like to do. In this way you would not be able to build trust or feel safe with people who do not have respect for your values.
  6. You must search for friends who are positive. True friends for you will be those who are in general fun to be around, self-confident, and happy. Everyone has their down days, but try to surround yourself with people who can recognize the humor in life and keep the bad things in perspective for you.
  7. You must stay away from people who constantly complain about their problems or try to pull you down into their drama.

To be a true friend is a skill that grows with practice. These useful tips would help you to become a good friend or remind you of some important aspects of friendship. Most of all let each friendship light up your life in a unique way.
