Fast and Easy Homemade Continental Recipes

Continental food, on the whole could be considered as International Cuisine, particularly British, Australia, New Zealand, American. Continental food is light food with less spice; sauces are generally used for dressing or in preparing food like pule, saute, cream de mushroom etc. In fact continental menu comprises of soup, cheese sticks, one main course, brown bread or wheat bread with accompaniments (butter, jam, jelly and deserts like pudding or cake). Recipe 1: Vegetable Mie Goreng

Serves: 4 people.
Cooking time: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 250g dried egg noodles, cooked to pack directions
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • ¼ cup chopped spring onions
  • 350g firm tofu, sliced
  • 1 large carrot, cut into sticks
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 packet Continental Chow Mein Mince Recipe Base
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cups bean sprouts

Preparation

  1. First of all you should heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan or wok and then add eggs, spring onions and continue to fry it until it is cooked. 
  2. Now you can transfer the cooked food to a plate.
  3. Again heat the remaining oil and fry tofu until it is browned. If it is browned then you should set it aside. 
  4. You should now add carrot and mushrooms and continue to stir fry it for 2 minutes. After that you can add the combined recipe base and pour water then return tofu and eggs to pan along with the noodles and continue to stir until combined and heated through. 
  5. You can even top the menu with bean sprouts while serving.
  6. If you like then you can make the recipe with chicken or pork.

Recipe 2: Pumpkin, Pea & Feta Risotto

Serves: 2 people.
Cooking time: 30 min.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 cups peeled & cubed pumpkin
  • 1 packet Continental Pumpkin & Bacon Risotto
  • 1½ cups hot water
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • ¼ cup chopped toasted walnuts
  • ½ cup crumbled feta
  • 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped parsley

Preparation

  1. At first you should heat oil in a large pan. Now you should add pumpkin and cook it for 3-4 minutes until it starts to brown.
  2. Then you can add Risotto and water and stir it to combine. 
  3. Bring to the boil and you should reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid. 
  4. Simmer it without stirring for about 15 minutes or until almost all the water is absorbed. 
  5. After that you can scatter peas over rice and replace the lid and cook for a further of 5 minutes until the peas are tender.
  6. Next remove it from heat and divide it between the serving bowls and top the dish with walnuts, feta and parsley.
  7. You can even serve it with a side of rocket and parmesan salad.

Recipe 3: Coconut Rice & Quinoa Salad

Serves: 4 people.
Cooking time: 12 min.

Ingredients

  • 1 packet Continental Thai Coconut & Lemon Grass Rice
  • ¼ cup quinoa, rinsed thoroughly
  • 1½ cups (375mL) hot water
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chopped or pureed ginger
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 red or yellow capsicum, diced
  • 2 cups finely shredded kale or cabbage
  • ½ cup toasted cashews nuts
  • ¼ cup pepitas
  • ½ cup coriander leaves

Preparation

  1. First, place the rice and rinsed quinoa and boiling water in a saucepan and bring it to the boil. 
  2. Next you should cover it and simmer it gently for 10 minutes. Now stir and replace the lid and stand for 2 minutes.
  3. Then you should continue to stir through lime juice, sweet chilli sauce and ginger. Allow it to cool slightly before you refrigerate it to cool.
  4. Now layer the rice, avocado, capsicum, kale, nuts, pepitas and coriander leaves into a serving bowl.
  5. The recipe is delicious and ready to be served with barbecued fish.
